Today’s headlines:

Over the past month, $BTC has ranged from lows of $90,000 to an all-time high of $108,000.

Right now, $BTC is up +2.92% versus a month ago, highlighting that despite the volatility, the price of Bitcoin has not changed a great deal over the past month.

From a technical perspective, BTC is below the main range resistance we have been tracking at $100,000. Beyond that, the market will look for daily closes above $106,000, which could indicate the start of a potential new all-time high breakout.

The Big Story

BlackRock holds 5% of Saylor’s Strategy

Global asset manager BlackRock has deepened its investment in Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), the company with the most significant corporate bitcoin holdings.

According to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), BlackRock's stake has risen from 4.09% to 5% as of Dec. 31, 2024.

The filing, dated Feb. 6, 2025, reveals that BlackRock’s holdings in Strategy increased to 11.26 million shares from 9.48 million in the previous quarter. The additional 1.78 million shares are now valued at approximately $590 million, based on Strategy’s current trading price of around $327 per share. In total, BlackRock’s position in the company is worth about $3.75 billion.

This move comes as Strategy continues to expand its bitcoin reserves. The company currently holds 471,107 BTC, valued at over $46 billion. The data below is taken from Bitcoin Magazine Pro’s Public Company Treasury Listings:

Figure 4: Strategy is the leader of companies holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets.

Strategy now holds 2.24% of the total supply of Bitcoin, 21 million, and this figure will likely continue to increase in the coming months. It has more than ten times the amount of the next nearest company, Marathon Digital Holdings.

Concerning BlackRock’s investment, crossing the 5% ownership threshold required the company to submit a Schedule 13G filing with the SEC. Institutional investors who acquire significant stakes in a company but do not intend to influence its management or operations use this type of filing.
